This is an asymmetric jar by Susan Folwell.  The piece is coil-built and painted on the outside. The jar has a flat base and Susan has angled it so that it appears to be falling or tipping over.  The imagery is from a painting by E. Hennings (a Taos Society of Artists painter).  Susan said, “The painting by Hennings is one of my favorites.  I’ve always wanted to use that imagery of the flower and create my own ‘flower vase’.”  The flowers are wonderfully detailed and the angular strokes on the bottom of the jar is as if one is looking at water in the base of a jar.  It’s amazing she could get such perfect balance for the piece!  It is signed on the bottom, “Folwell”.
