Folwell, Susan – “Heart to Heart” Double Shoulder Water Jar

10.5"w x 9.25"h

$ 3,200.00

This is one of the few classic water jars we have had by Susan Folwell.  The jar is coil-built and reflects Suan’s skill as a potter of not just contemporary, but also, traditional shapes.  The jar has a high double shoulder, you can feel how it is pushed out from the inside.  The jar is slipped a deep red.  The inside of the neck has small blue dots, representing water. The jar is painted with India inks to create the colorations.  The imagery is one that she has used in the past, of a work by Bert Phillips (a Taos Society of Artists painter).  Susan said of this piece,

“The jar has a personal meaning to me in that I have always gravitated to this painting.  There are two men, maybe a father and son, who have caught and killed a deer.  Presumably, they are getting ready or trying to hang it to “clean” it. My husband went on his first hunt this year and there is a connection throughout the process and especially in native culture. The title, “Heart to Heart” speaks to the importance and connection between us and our surroundings and nature”.

The jar has amazing colorations in combination with an exceptional shape.  It is signed on the bottom.
