This is a creative set by Susan Folwell.  She is one of the exciting innovators in Pueblo pottery.  This piece is part of her series, “Taos Light: Canvas to Clay Pueblo Perspectives”.  Beginning in 2017, Susan Folwell began a series of clay pieces inspired by and re-interpreting the Taos Society of Artists’ work from 1915-27.  The design on the bowl comes from a painting by Oscar Berninghaus entitled, “Rabbit Hunter” (see the last image).  Susan has taken the rabbit hunter scene and placed it in the bowl, creating “Rabbit Stew”.  The bowl is painted with the hunter and the spoon has the rabbit.  Of course, Susan added the carrots, celery, and onions painted around the rabbit!  The bowl and spoon are painted with various clay slips and highlighted with paint.  There are two additional clay pieces, where the stew has “spilled”.  The group of four is set into a museum mount which allows it to be displayed as one sculptural piece.  Overall, quite dynamic!  It is signed on the bottom, “Susan Folwell”.
