Folwell, Susan – “Timberline” Bears & Navajo Rugs Jar

10"w x 8.5"h

$ 3,800.00

This jar by Susan Folwell is entitled, “Timberline”.  It is part of her series for, “Peering through Taos Light”.  The focus is on Susan re-interpreting the work of the Taos Society of Artists. This jar is inspired by a painting by Buck Dunton entitled, “Timberline”.  Susan says,

“Buck Dunton is one of my favorite of the Taos Artists.  This was his last significant paintings and one of the best examples of his art nouveau in his paintings.  Duton was an outdoorsman, so wanted to give this particular jar a warm feeling.  That feeling was to paint the bears as “paintings” and surround them with Navajo blankets.”

The jar itself is asymmetric in form and fully polished.  The two bear “paintings” are on opposite sides and at various angles on the jar.  They are separated by the rug paintings.  It is almost as if all the designs are simply draped around the jar itself!  The polished areas are fully designed with the Folwell family “x’s”.  It is signed on the bottom.
