Helen Gachupin was a daughter of Andrea Toribio Gachupin. She never married so she had no children to carry on her pottery-making tradition. She was known for her traditional pottery and use of traditional designs.  This jar is tall and has birds on each side.  They are painted as the design.  Separating them are polished cloud patterns.  Note the very tightly painted plants off which the birds are flying!  It is a very charming design.  The jar is signed on the bottom, “Helen Gachupin, Zia Pueblo”.  It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
