Laura Gachupin is one of the leading potters from Jemez Pueblo.  This jar is one of the classics of her style.  The jar has a corn design on one side in relief.  The other side has a series of spiraling melon ribs. The entire surface is polished tan and the rim of the jar is polished red.  The shape and direction of the melon ribs is striking on this piece as they are deeply carved and spiral up from the base.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
