Gachupin, Laura – Singing Mother Storyteller (1984)
Laura Gachupin is one of the leading potters from Jemez Pueblo. This is one of her figurative pieces. It is a “Singing Mother” storyteller-style of figure with the mother holding a single child on her back. Laura has sculpted the shawl around the mother and it is amazing how she captured the folds and movement of the shawl and then polished it red! The remainder of the piece is matte and there are cloud designs on her skirt and she is wearing a necklace. Even the face of the baby is sculpted! The figure is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom, “Laura Gachupin”.
