Garcia, Greg – Long Neck Indented Shoulder Water Jar (1990s)

4"w x 5.25"h

$ 450.00

Greg Garcia was known for his use of classic Santa Clara forms for his pottery.  He learned to make pottery from his grandmother, Severa Tafoya, and also worked closely with his sister, Tina Garcia.  This is one of my favorite styles of his water jars.  The jar has a high shoulder with an elongated neck and a slightly turned-out rim.  What makes this form so special is that the shoulder has a sharp edge and then the clay indents downward before turning upward to the neck.  Getting that sharp shoulder and “dip” is difficult but exceptional visually and as a tactile part of the jar.  The jar is fired a deep red coloration.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Greg Garcia”.
