Garcia, Jason – “Corn Maiden #5” Clay Tile

5" x 4.5"

$ 650.00

This tile by Jason Garcia is one of his “Corn Maiden” Series.  The Corn Dances are a traditional ceremonial dance at Santa Clara and Jason’s tiles capture the before/after and real-life moments of the dancers after they leave the plaza.  Here there are two of the Corn Maiden dancers, one with a cigarette.  It’s these “moments” he captures that are part of the cultural narrative of the Pueblo.  This is a hand-built clay tile, made from native clay.  All of the colors are derived from Native clay and it is traditionally fired.  It is signed, “Okku Pin” which means “Turtle Mountain” in Tewa.
