Garcia, Jason – “Madonna + Child Kha’Po Owinge” Small Clay Tile

4.5" x 5"

$ 400.00

This smaller tile by Jason Garcia is part of his “Kha’Po Owinge” or “Santa Clara Pueblo series. The tile has a Pueblo mother and child painted onto the surface. The image comes from a photograph taken at the Pueblo in the early 1900s.  In the background are the surrounding hills.  Note the detail on her shawl and necklace!  In the sky is Jason’s signature raincloud which he often uses on pottery.  For Jason, this is a connection to the polychrome pottery of artists such as Lela and Van Gutierrez.  The piece is made from native clay and painted with native clay slips.  It is signed with his Tewa name, Okuu Pin, which means Turtle Mountain.
