Garcia, Jessie – Bowl with Mountains and Snow (1960s)

4.75"w x 3.5"h

$ 275.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This bowl is painted with a classic Acoma design.  There black painted (bee-weed) mountains separated by a snow pattern.  It is interesting how she altered the classic squares of the snow design to diamond shapes to complement the mountains.  It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally purchased in the 1960s.
