Garcia, Jessie – Bowl with Rain and Mountain Designs (1960s)

4"w x 3"h

$ 275.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This bowl is painted with a classic Acoma pattern.  There are two rows of squares with mountain and rain designs.  They alternate in each square and are smaller near the base.  It is interesting to see it on a smaller vessel and by the 1970s it was one of the common designs used by Lucy Lewis, Marie Z. Chino, and others.  The bowl was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally purchased in the 1960s.
