Garcia, Jessie – Jar with Mountain and Rain Designs (1968)
Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery. Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery. This jar is painted with a classic Acoma design. It is alternating mountain and rain patterns. The result is a modernist appearance to the jar. It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface. It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It was originally purchased in 1968.
