Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This jar is painted with a classic Acoma design.  There are very tightly painted rain and lightning designs. The rain is the thin lines and the lightning the jagged lines.  The imagery is well painted to match the shape of the jar.  It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally purchased in the 1960s.
