Garcia, Jessie – Large Jar with Lightning Designs (1960s)

6.5"w x 7"h

$ 800.00

Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery.  Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino led the revival of Acoma pottery.  This is a larger piece of her pottery.  It has a low shoulder and straight sides.  The jar is painted with bee-weed (black).  It is the classic lightning design the encircles the jar.  There are negative space, black, and fine-line lightning patterns. It is certainly one of the most recognizable designs in Acoma pottery today.  It was traditionally fired which gives it some color variation on the surface.  It is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It was originally purchased in the 1960s.
