Garcia, Jessie – Wedding Vase with Bird Wing Designs (1970’s)
Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery. Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino, led the revival of Acoma pottery. This wedding vase is a classic shape with the twisted handle. The body of the piece is painted with a series of bird wing designs. They are both fineline and black in alternating coloration. It is painted with bee-weed (black) and traditionally fired. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
