Garcia, Jessie – Wedding Vase with Mountain Designs (1970’s)
Jessie Garcia is one of the great names in Acoma pottery. Between 1950 and 1970, she along with Lucy Lewis and Marie Z. Chino, and Lolita Concho led the revival of Acoma pottery. This wedding vase is a classic shape and painted with designs around the body of the piece. There are alternating mountain and canyon (fine-line square areas) patterns. It is painted with bee-weed (black) and traditionally fired. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Jessie Garcia”. It is in good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair and some areas of spalling.
