Garcia, Tammy – Open Flower Bowl with Quail and Dragonflies (2019)

5.5"w x 2"h (7"h with Stand)

$ 3,000.00

This bowl by Tammy Garcia is a classic open bowl which is carved on the inside. The bowl itself is fluted, and when set in a stand so it looks like a flower!  The inside of the bowl is carved with dragonflies and a quail.  The quail is in the center with polished and matte surfaces.  The dragonflies are craved and polished both tan and red.  There is a band of flowers and carved leaves below the quail.  Note the various depths of carving from the recessed flowers to the dragonfly bodies.  The outside of this bowl is perfectly smooth and contrasts with the carved and polished interior.  The bowl is signed on the back and it sits in a museum mount which allows the design to easily be seen at any angle.  Tammy has won numerous awards for her pottery and been the recipient of the New Mexico Governor’s award.  It’s not surprising that with the intricate nature of her pottery she makes only about ten pieces of pottery a year.  Yet each piece is unique and expands on her distinctive style and voice in the clay.
