This is a complex carved jar by Tammy Garcia from 1998.  The jar is carved with two large birds.  The birds are swirling in design and are surrounded by deeply carved and rounded melon ribs.  Separating the birds are two vertical sections of cloud, rain, and lightning designs.  The entire jar is fully polished and fired black.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Tammy Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  Tammy has won numerous awards for her pottery and been the recipient of the New Mexico Governor’s award.  It’s not surprising that with the intricate nature of her pottery she makes only about ten pieces of pottery a year.  Yet each piece is unique and expands on her distinctive style and voice in the clay.
