Garcia, Tina – Large Long Neck Jar w/ Bear Paws & Ribbon (2003)

7.5"w x 11"h

$ 1,450.00

Tina Garcia was well known for her focus on traditional shape and plainware Santa Clara pottery. This is one of her classic long-neck jars.  The shoulder is sharp and the neck is elongated.  There is a slight turn out of the rim. The entire piece is fully polished and fired a deep red coloration.  The jar has two bear paws impressed into the clay.  The bear paws are part of a story where a bear led the Pueblo people to water during a drought.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Tina Garcia”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  The jar has a second-place ribbon from the 2003 Gallup Ceremonials. The ribbon is signed by pottery authorities Kent McManis and D. Rowberry.
