Garcia, Virginia – Red Water Jar with Fluted Rim (1989)
This water jar by Virginia Garcia is a classic shape for Santa Clara pottery. The jar has a sharp shoulder that dips down slightly and then extends up towards the neck. The rim fo the jar is slightly undulating creating a “raindrop” rim. The inside of the rim is also polished. The jar was traditionally fired red. Virginia is a sister of noted potters Tina Garcia and Greg Garcia. While Virginia is no longer making pottery, this is certainly an outstanding example of her skill. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, ‘Virginia Garcia”. It is from 1989.
