This bowl is one of the very few red pieces we have seen by Juanita Gonzales.  It is painted “red-on-red”, which is the earlier style of redware until the introduction of the buff-on-red colorations.  The bowl is polished red and then painted with rain, cloud, lightning, and prayer feather designs. The design is repeated four times around the piece. The bowl is highly polished and the red is a deep coloration.  The bowl is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.    The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Juanita”.   It is great to find one of their red pieces in such wonderful condition!
