Gonzales, Rose – Candlestick with Cloud and Plant Designs (1930s)

3.5"w x 4"h

$ 375.00

This is an unusual piece by San Ildefonso potter Rose Gonzales.  She is often considered the first at San Ildefonso Pueblo to make carved pottery. However, over the course of her career, she created a variety of styles including plainware, painted, and carved pottery.  This candlestick has a wide, flat bottom and a handle.  It is painted with triangular clouds and plant designs.  The entire piece is fully polished, including the handle!  The piece was fired a dark black.  It is signed on the bottom, “Rose” and it is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
