Gonzales, Rose – Gunmetal Long Neck Jar with Cloud Designs (1960’s)

5.25"w x 7.5"h

$ 800.00

This is a classic long neck jar by Rose Gonzales.  She is often considered the first potter at San Ildefonso Pueblo to make carved pottery. However, over the course of her career, she created a variety of styles including plainware, painted and carved pottery.  This jar is her signature shape with a sharp shoulder and an elongated neck.  The jar is “cameo” carved with rounded edges.  There is a cloud pattern on two sides separated by a linear rain pattern. The jar is was very highly fired to create a gunmetal appearance to the surface, which is somewhat silver/metallic in appearance, as opposed to deep black.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  It is signed, “Rose” on the bottom in the clay.
