Gonzales, Tse-Pe – Black-and-Sienna Jar with Turquoise (1980s)
Tse-Pe Gonzales was a son of noted potter Rose Gonzales. This is an unusual piece of his work. It is a classic water jar with a sharp shoulder and a slight turn out of the neck. The entier piece is highly polished and fired a glassy black. The rim of the jar is two-toned black-and-sienna. There is a band of hei-shi beads inset around the neck. There is also a single inset piece of turquoise on the top of the shoulder. The jar is signed on the bottom “TP” which is his hallmark. This was his hallmark he began to use right after he divorced Dora Tse-Pe and then later began to use his more stylized hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a creative and unusual piece of his pottery!
