Gonzales, Tse-Pe – Clay Bear with Silver, Wood & Turquoise Arrowhead (1980s)
Tse-Pe Gonzales was a son of noted potter Rose Gonzales. This is a complex clay bear figure. The bear is clay and fully polished. It is etched with a heartline and there are turquoise beads for the eyes. What is complex is the arrowhead. Tse-Pe took a class to learn to make jewelry in the 1970s and often incorporated silver into his work. This arrowhead on the back is silver with inlaid wood on top and inlaid turquoise around the sides. It is wrapped onto the clay bear with leather. It is a creative and elegant piece. It is signed on the back leg “TP” which is his hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. Definitely a creative and unusual piece of his pottery!
