Tse-Pe Gonzales is a son of noted potter Rose Gonzales.  This exceptional jar brings together many of the best aspects of Tse-Pe’s pottery.  The jar is fully polished and etched with a water serpent (avanyu).  The neck has been two-toned sienna.  The bear lid is polished at the base but the remainder is micaceous clay.  The arrowhead on the back of the bear is metal with inlaid turquoise.  Tse-Pe took classes in the early 1970’s to learn to make jewelry and used it on his pottery.   He also added some turquoise chips on the rim of the jar.  The etching is tight and the stippling of the background is a visual signature to Tse-Pe’s technique.  It is signed on the bottom with Tse-Pe’s hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
