Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This jar has a sharp shoulder and it is fully polished.  It is painted with 30 small feathers encircling the piece.  Note how they are painted at a slight angle.  Above the feathers are sun and rain designs.  Below them right at the shoulder are cloud designs.  The lines are all tightly painted before the piece was fired.  The jar is very highly polished and fired a deep black coloration.  It is from 1991.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
