Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This large jar has a round shoulder and a short neck. It is very highly polished. The jar has 34 feathers painted encircling the piece.  There is a section with rain designs and one with lighting.  There are small cloud patterns above the top of the design.  The jar was fired a glassy black coloration.  It is from 1983.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
