Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his distinctive redware pieces.  The piece is a classic round shape and painted with 52 feathers.  Above the feathers are rain, mesa, cloud, and lightning designs. The imagery above the feathers is more complex on this piece than many of the others we have had in the gallery.  The symmetry of the jar and precision of the painting is exceptional  The bowl is from 1988, so very early in his career.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
