Gutierrez, Denny – Long Neck Jar with Feathers and Birds (1988)

Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is a larger piece of his pottery with a low shoulder and elongated neck.  The piece is highly polished and has 49 feathers encircling the the shoulder.  Above the feathers are rain cloud and stylized birds.  The lines are all tightly painted before the piece was fired.  The jar is very highly polished and fired a deep black coloration.  It is from 1988.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
