Gutierrez, Denny – Long Neck Jar with with 42 Feathers (1990)
Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls. However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This jar is a striking shape with a round shoulder and an elongated neck. It is one of the larger pieces of his pottery we have had come back to the gallery. The jar is painted with 42 feathers encircling the shoulder. They are painted at a slight angle. Above the feathers are cloud and rain designs. The jar has a highly stone polished surface. The jar is from 1990. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
