Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls. However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his distinctive redware pieces. The jar has a sharp shoulder and an elongated neck. The piece is painted around the shoulder with a feather pattern. There are 38 feathers. Above the feathers are two rainbows and two lightning patterns. The piece was fired a strong red coloration. The symmetry of the jar and the precision of the painting is exceptional The jar is from 1988. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
