Denny Gutierrez was known for his faceted melon bowls.  However, he also created exceptional painted vessels. This is one of his distinctive redware pieces.  The piece is a classic shape with a round shoulder and painted with 42 feathers.  Above the feathers are lighting and rain designs.  The symmetry of the jar and precision of the painting is exceptional  The jar is from 1988, so very early in his career.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Denny Gutierrez”.
