Dolorita Gutierrez was a daughter of noted potter Pasqualita Gutierrez and a niece of SaraFina Tafoya. This is an open bowl that is fully polished, even on the inside! The outer rim has a triangular mountain design. The piece was fired to a deep black coloration. It is from the 1950’s. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Dolorita”. It is in excellent condition with no other chips, cracks, restoration or repair.

Dolorita Gutierrez was a daughter of noted potter Pasqualita Tafoya and a niece of Sara Fina Tafoya. She was the sister of Tomacita Tafoya, Celestina Naranjo, Lorencita Naranjo, Barbara Tafoya and sister-in-law of Petra Gutierrez. She was the mother of Francis Gutierrez and Ramona Tapia. She was known for her painted pottery and use of traditional designs. She signed her pottery with her first name only. She is not to be confused with Dolorita Tafoya Padilla, a sister of Margaret Tafoya, who made very little pottery, which was mostly unsigned.
