Gutierrez, Dolorita – Open Bowl with Handles and Avanyu (1950s)

9.5"long x 7.5"w x 3"h

$ 225.00

Dolorita Gutierrez was a daughter of noted potter Pasqualita Gutierrez and a niece of Sara Fina Tafoya.  This is an open bowl with twisted handles.  The entire piece is fully polished.  In the center is an avanyu which is outlined in white and the surrounding area is slipped with matte red clay.  The result is a very striking piece in the classic “red-on-red with white” style.  The back of the bowl is also fully polished.  It is most likely from the 1950’s.  It is signed on the back in the clay, “Dolorita”.  It is in very good condition with one small ding on the back, otherwise, no other chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
