$ 1,050.00

This is an very complex designed plate by Helen Gutierrez (1935-1993).  She was a daughter of Isabel Atencio, a sister of Gilbert Atencio, and the mother of Geraldine, Carol, and Rose Gutierrez. She was known for her traditional San Ildefonso pottery.  This is a large plate and the front is fully polished.  It has a feather and avanyu design around the edge.  In the center is a band of cloud design around a central medallion. The central medallion has rain and mountain patterns.  It is a cream-colored clay on the polished red.  Typical of her work it is highly polished and precision painted.  It was traditionally fired and the turquoise was added after the firing.  The plate is signed on the back, “Helen Gutierrez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
