Gutierrez, Lois – Polychrome Double Eagle Seedpot (1980s)

5"w x 3.5"h

$ 375.00

This is an intricately painted seedpot by Lois Gutierrez.  It is from the 1980s.  Lois is one of the few potters who continues to create polychrome pottery at Santa Clara.  Polychrome, or more than three different colors of clay slips, are all painted onto the surface of the vessel before it is fired. This piece is very round in shape.  The surface is more textured than her work today, which has a more polished surface.  On this piece, there are two large eagles painted onto the surface.  Each eagle is spiraling with extended wings and tail.  There are at least seven different colors of clay on the piece! It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Lois”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
