This is a classic long neck jar by Lela Gutierrez and her son Luther Gutierrez.  Lela would make the pottery and Luther would paint the designs using natural clay slips.  This jar has a very intricately painted avanyu (water serpent) encircling the piece.  Around the neck is a lighting and cloud pattern.  All the various colors are from natural clay slips and this was a signature style of their work. The jar is signed on the bottom, “Lela / Luther”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
