Teresa Gutierrez is known for her deep-carved pottery with complex designs. This long neck jar is coil-built and deeply carved. The neck of the jar has carved feathers and around the body is an avanyu. The designs are carved into the clay, and then the jar is stone-polished. The designs are outlined with matte clay before the piece is traditionally fired a deep black. The bowl is signed “Teresa Gutierrez” on the bottom. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
