Virginia Gutierrez was one of the few polychrome potters from Nambe Pueblo. She is known for her experimentation with various clay slips.  This piece has an elongated “kiva step” or “terraced” form. The terraced back has small painted rainclouds on the inside and outside. On the front is a medallion with a sunface in the center, surrounded by an avanyu.  There are six different colors of clay used on the bowl.  It is signed on the bottom, “V. Gutierrez”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
