This one of the few plates by Art Cody Haungooah. It is from 1983.  It is polished in the center and then etched with design. The remainder of the plate is slipped with mica and the piece is fired black.  The design in the center is fish, which is highlighted with red and white clay slips and has a turquoise hei-shi bead eye.  Interestingly, in 1982-3 a similar style of fish would become Art’s signature (see the last photo).  It makes one wonder if this large piece was the impetus for that change in signature style.  This plate is one of his few large pieces and the dynamic appearance of the fish in the center captivating.  The plate is signed, “Haungooah 1983”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.  Definitely an important piece of his art and history!
