Haungooah, Art Cody – Seedpot with Avanyu & Bead Insets

3"w x 3.25"h

$ 975.00

This is a very intricately designed seedpot by Art Cody Haungooah.  The piece is fully polished and fired black. There is an avanyu encircling the shoulder of the piece.  There are shell bead insets in the horn and for the eye of the avanyu.  There are also additional beads in the cloud and rain designs above the back of the avanyu.  Art said he liked to use beads in his work to reference the beaded object of his Kiowa background.  The area around the avanyu is slipped with a pinkish-red colored clay.  There area additional highlights of white clay.  Near the base of the piece are a series of white dots representing stars and one “constellation” which is etched out in a red clay, which forms a flute player.  The seedpot was made between 1982-5 and it is signed on the bottom with a fish and the initials “AH”.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
