10"w x 9.5"h

$ 675.00

Eva Histia was the daughter of Helice Vallo and mother of Hilda Antonio, Rose Torivio and Ida Ortiz. She began making pottery around 1922 and continued through about 1920.  She was known for her use of classic shapes and designs.  This large jar is a classic Acoma shape with a high shoulder and short neck.  The neck of the jar is painted with a butterfly design.  Around the body of the jar, there are rain and lightning designs.  Her use of fine-line and black-and-white imagery is striking.  The red base is the “sunset” coloration of the red clay.  The jar is signed on the bottom in the clay, “E. Hista”.  The jar is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
