Eva Histia was the daughter of Helice Vallo and mother of Hilda Antonio, Rose Torivio and Ida Ortiz. She began making pottery around 1922 and continued through about 1920.  She was known for her use of classic shapes and designs.  This large owl is a classic Acoma pottery.  The owl is coil built and thin-walled.  It is fully painted with the feather designs across the entire surface!  There is red clay for the ears, beak, and feet.  The eyes are also red with black.  The piece was traditionally fired. The owl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “E. Hista”.  It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair.
