Honyumptewa, Aaron – Picuris Micaceous Wedding Vase

3.5"w x 4.5"h

$ 130.00

Aaron Honyumptewa is both Hopi and Picuris. He is known for his very intricately carved katinsa dolls.  He has moved back to Picuris Pueblo in New Mexico, the home of his mother and family and has begun to learn to make pottery from his mother.  The pottery is the traditional style of Picuris pueblo and Aaron says he is hoping to help revive the art form!  This is a classic wedding vase shape.  There is a nice turn to the spouts and a tight feel to the piece.  It was traditionally fired to create the blushes on the surface.  If Aaron works with the clay with the same creativity in which he carved katsinas, he has a bright future!
