Howato, Ramon – 11″ Red Plate with Eagle Tail Designs

11" Diameter

$ 600.00

Ramon Howato is a son of noted potter Diana Tahbo.  He learned to make pottery from his uncle, Mark Tahbo.  This plate is made from traditional red Hopi clay.  The piece is painted with bee-weed and native clay slips, and traditionally fired.  The plate has a tightly painted eagle tail design that encompasses the entire surface.  The back is also fully polished.  It is a striking use of design.  The plate was traditionally fired.  It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Ramon Tahbo Howato” and a pipe, as he is “Tobacco Clan”.
