Johnson, Barbara – Red and Buff Bowl with Sun Designs (1970’s)
Barbara Johnson was a daughter of noted Maricopa potter Mabel Sunn. This bowl is one of the more striking colorations in Maricopa pottery with a buff top and a red clay base and interior. The entire piece is fully polished. The black designs are derived from a mixture of mesquite sap and cactus spines. The imagery is a sun and rain pattern. The bowl is signed on the bottom in the clay, “Barbara Johnson, Maricopa”. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks, restoration or repair. There are some very light surface scratches.
