Kahe-Charley, Karen – Canteen with Swirling Hopi Birds
9" x 9"h x 5.5" deep
$ 1,200.00
Karen Kahe Charley is a daughter of Marcella Kahe. She learned to make pottery from her mother in 1980. This canteen is coil-built, stone-polished, painted with bee-weed and red clay, and traditionally fired. The canteen has rounded handles and a short neck. The front is fully painted with mountain designs and swirling Sikyatki-style birds. The bodies of each bird consist of classic Hopi-Tewa designs. The jar is signed on the bottom with Karen’s hallmark. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair. It sits on a metal museum mount.
