Carlos Laate learned to make pottery from his aunt Jennie Laate and his step-grandmother, Daisy Hooee.  Each piece is coil built and painted with clay slips.  This jar has a classic Zuni heartline deer motif.   There are three deer and they are separated by swirling plant designs.  The rim has a cloud pattern.   The heartline deer is a classic image in Zuni pottery, with the heart representing the strength and spirit of the animal.  The jar is signed, “Carlos Laate”.  It is from 2004.  It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, restoration, or repair.
